Whether you are personally booking your own jobs or through an agent, it is important to know that the wrong modeling jobs will find you. Now, if you have an agent, they should be vetting out any jobs that are not right for you. However, they do want to get paid and get you paid, keep that in mind. So, there may be times that they are not selecting gigs in your best interest.
So, it is important to clearly state to your agent, what work you are comfortable with and what your boundaries are. If they are not happy with your boundaries or are trying to push you in a way you are not ok with, seek another agent. Some things may be resolved by a mature conversation, on the other hand.
Questions to ask yourself about pending jobs are: how does this make me feel? Would I be proud or embarrassed? Do I feel unsafe? Are my concerns being heard? Does this go against my morals? For example, some models may choose to decline racy modeling, alcohol, or smoking ads. Is the photo shoot in an unsafe environment with no security. All important questions for you to ask and for you to decide. Choose wisely.
