Expired makeup

What I don't feel like is talked about enough in the beauty industry, is when does our makeup actually expire. And, what can we do to possibly stretch out that time to make our beauty products last longer. I found that expiration dates can vary. The most important thing is if you notice a change in texture or odor, it is definitely time to throw it out because bacteria can be harmful. A fun helpful hint is that you can purchase a mini refrigerator specifically made for caring for skin care products and liquid makeup. It can actually extend the expiration on liquid foundation, making it last for up to two years.

Let's talk about mascara. This is the most important one to watch for. I recently threw out five mascaras. They were probably over a year old or more. They say mascara can last between three to six months. Make sure after use that you are closing it tightly. I knew it was time cause the formula sure smelled very chemical like. And, I don't want to put that on my eyelashes and risk getting an eye infection. Also, the same time frame would include liquid eye liner.

Next up are cream products; cream foundations, highlighters, cream blushes, etc. They should stay good for six to twelve months. Keep in mind, you want to be especially careful with cream products and keep them out of the heat. Liquid foundations will stay good for a year, a little longer in some cases. Always, check the formula.

Now, for powders; they can stay good for up to two years or longer. This will include face powders, blushes, eye shadows, bronzers.

Lastly, lipsticks and lip gloss can go anywhere from one year to a year and a half.

And, remember it is always best to make sure you are checking out your beauty products to see if they are expired, so you will avoid a breakout and keep your skin safe.
